Exam & Treatment

At the initial visit to the clinic, you can expect a thorough consultation and examination, to find the underlying causes of your symptoms.  Before we start your consultation, you will be asked to complete a Case History form, detailing your current and past health history, to include the events leading to your current symptoms.  The form will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.  The consultation, examination and first treatment will last approx 40-50 minutes and will include :

  •  Full Consultation
  •  Case History Review
  •  Postural Analysis
  •  Neurological Tests
  •  Orthopaedic Tests

You will remain fully clothed throughout, with the exception of removing your shoes.  After the examination and treatment has been completed, you will receive a verbal report of your examination findings.  You will also be given an exercise programme that will be specifically suited to your needs.

The Treatment
The treatment programme is designed to restore 'balance' to the tone of your muscles and joint position.  This will improve the function of your body and return you to good health. This is not just a quick fix, but a long-term solution to your aches and pains.  The adjustments made to your body, will be specific to your particular ailment and needs.  A home exercise programme will also help stabilise your condition.   Patients who attend the clinic are often pleasantly surprised that the adjustments are gentle 'low force' corrections, to include:

Activator Technique:
The Activator technique consists of using a hand held instrument called an Activator, that delivers a precise controlled impulse force into a misaligned joint and to provide a stimulus to help restore muscle balance.

Flexion-Distraction Technique:
The Cox technique consists of a gentle distraction (traction) of the lumbar spine to separate the lumbar vertebra and allow any bulging/slipped discs to be de-stressed.

Thompson Technique:
The pelvic adjustments are assisted by the use of a 'drop table' which requires less force, and makes the adjustment more comfortable, to align the pelvis, sacrum and lumbar spine.

Mechanical or Electrical stimulation:
A mechnical percussor or electrical interferential stimulation to the hypotonic muscles and under-active muscles brain stem.  This will provided a stimulus to the muscle spindle receptors and brain stem, to help flaccid muscles increase their tone
